Water quality

Our constitution section 3.2 states “To take such steps as are appropriate to facilitate the protection and promotion of the Tongariro River and its environment as an effective nursery of both the rainbow and brown trout.”
To this end we have a concern that the river water quality remain in a pristine state for trout survival.
Lake Taupo is a key element in the habitat of the trout. There is recognition that the Lake water quality is suffering the early effect of nitrogen enrichment. The Lake Taupo Protection Trust with funding of $81.5 Million has been set up to reverse the impact of nitogen enrichment.
